types of blood analysis tests
CBC, Glycohemoglobin, Chemistries, Thyroid function tests, lipid profile, Electrolytes, clotting and coagulation studies, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, glucose tolerance test, toxicology studies, ABG, Cardiac Enzymes, CRP.
CBC- Complete Blood Count
Evaluation of cellular components of the blood. Includes red blood cell count, red blood cell indices, white blood cell count, white blood cell diff, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelet count. Sometimes referred to as hemp-gram. Often the differential must be ordered specifically as CBC w/ diff.
Hemoglobin (Hgb)
Measurement of the oxygen-carrying pigment of the red blood cells.
Hematocrit (HCT)
Measurement of the percentage of red blood cells in a volume of whole blood.
Glycohemoglobin
Measurement of hemoglobin to which glucose id bound; also known as Hemoglobin A1c.
Chemistries
Normal chemistry profiles may contain blood serum levels for albumin, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, bilirubin, calcium, creatine, lactate dehydrogenase, phosphorus, total protein, urea nitrogen, and uric acid.
Thyroid Function tests
Thyroid thyroxine (T4), Triiodathyronine (T3), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
Lipid profile
Total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol.
Electrolytes (lytes)
Blood serum test for chloride, potassium, sodium, and carbon dioxide
Clotting and Coagulating studies
partial thromboplastin time (PTT), Prothrombin time (PT), platelet (thrombocyte) Count, bleeding times.
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
The rate at which red blood cells (erythrocytes) fall out of well-mixed whole blood to the bottom of the test tube.
Glucose Tolerance test (GTT)
fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels
Toxicology studies
drug screens
Drug levels
Digoxin, digitoxin, theophylline, lidocaine, lithium, and various drugs for therapeutic and/or toxic levels.
Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) analysis
Measurement of dissolved oxygen and carbon dioxide in arterial blood. Also measures pH and O2 saturation of the arterial blood.
Cardiac Enzymes
Creatine kinase (CK), CK isoenzymes, actate dehydrogenase (LD), lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes,
C-reactive protein (CRP)
A blood test used to detect bacterial infection and inflammatory disorders; an indicator of possible acute myocardial infarction.
