What is used as a barrier to protect skin from proteolytic enzymes and bile salts, among other things, in ostomy?
pectin-based skin barrier...also use skin care products such as sealants and creams
How often should a pouch be emptied?
one third to one half full
What is the best time to change the pouch?
inactive times, before meals, before retiring at night, waking in morning, 2 to 4 hours after eating...and change the pouch every 3 to 7 days
What type of foods may need to be eliminated if causing severe diarrhea, constipation, or blockage?

DO NOT EVER let ostomy drainage come in contact with skin without immediately cleaning it as it is highly caustic!
If appropriate, be sure to measure the effluent (drainage) from ostomy.
