ELEMENT

Element:basic building block of matter cannot be broken down to a simpler substances, consists of atoms of only one type.

ATOMS

the smallest particle of an element that has the chemical properties of that element. These are the building blocks of matter.

MASS

the amount of matter in a substance you can measure mass using a balance this is not to be confused with weight

DENSITY

a measurment of how solid something is specifically it is the mass per unit volume of a substance(d=m/v)

VOLUME

the amount of space an object takes up.

MATTER

Anything that has mass and takes up space(has volume).

NUCLEUS

The center of the atom that contains both protons and neutrons.

PROTONS

The positively charged particles of an atom, found in the nucleus .

NEUTRONS

The small particle of an atom that carries a neutral charge found in the nucleus.

PERIODIC TABLE

A chart that contains all the known elements arranged by the atoms number.

SOLID

The state of which matter maintains a fixed volume and shape.

LIQUID

The state in which matter maintains a fixed volume but adapts to the shape of its container.

GAS

The state in which matter expands to occupy whatever volume is available.

PHYSICAL PROPERTY

Characteristic that you can see through direct observation that includes color texture, density, odor, luster, and state(solid, liquid,or gas)

CHEMICAL PROPERTY

Properties that can only be observed when one substance changes into

PHYSICAL CHANGE

A change from one state(solid or liquid or gas)to another without a change in chemical composition.

CHEMICAL CHANGE

A change from one state(solid or liquid or gas)to another without a change in che

MELTING

Change of state from a solid to a liquid with the addition of energy.

EVAPORATION

The change of a substance from a liquid to gas.

BOILING

The conversation a liquid to vapor.

FREZZING

The change of a state from a liquid to a solid.

CONDENSATION

The change of state from gas to liquid.

SUBLIMATION

The process in which a solid changes directly into a gas.

CONDUCTION

The transfer of heat energy between objects that are in contact or touching.

CONVECTION

The transfer of heat energy by a moving liquid or gas.

RADIATION

The transfer of heat energy by electromagnetic waves.

THERMAL ENERGY

The total of all the kinetic and potential energy of the atoms of an energy.

TEMPERATURE

The measure of thermal energy.
