Chemical Change
The Process converting one substance into another substance that will have nw properties.
Dissolve
The process of a solid substance breaking down into a liquid state.
Liquid
The state of matter in which particles slide freely over one another. The water in the river is in a liquid state.
Matter
Somthing that has mass and takes up space
Physical Change
A change in the structure of a substance. After the change, it keeps all of its properties.
Product
The substance that comes out a chemical change.
Reactants
The substances that are used to make a chemical change
Solid
The state of matter in which paricles vibrate and do not appear to move. Ice is water ina solid state.
Substance
Any material that can be observed.
Weight
A measurement of how much Earth's gravity pulls on an object.
Law of Matter
Matter can neither be created or destroyed by ordinary means.
Three States of Matter:
Solid, Liquid, and Gas. In solids the atoms are packed closely together, in a liquid ther is more space between, and in gas the atoms have a lot of space. (Foam balls in cage)
Changes in Physical Properties are called:
Physical Changes. If the size, shape or state of a substance changes but the substance itself remains the same, then we say a physical change has occured.
Examples of Physical Changes
1.Water Freezing(weight stays the same)
2.Water evaporating from a salt water mixture 3. Paper being cut into pieces |
In Order for a Chemical Change to Occur:
There needs to be an unexpected change in color, heat or state
Examples of Chemical Changes
1. Adding baking soda and vinegar; weighs less because some of the matter turns into gas.
2.Heat energy burning bread 3.Rust on scissors 4.Match igniting 5.Fireworks |
