What is a "LOWEST common multiple" (LCM)?
The smallest common multiple of two or more numbers is called the lowest common multiple (LCM).

To find the lowest common multiple (LCM) of two or more numbers, list the multiples of the larger number and stop when you find a multiple of the other number. This is the LCM.
Give an example of the lowest common multiple (LCM) of 3 and 8
Multiples of 8 are 8, 16, 24, 32, …

Multiples of 3 are 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, …

LCM of 3 and 8 = 24
What is a PRIME Number?
A prime number is a counting number that only has two factors, itself and one.
What are FACTORS of PRIME numbers?
There is one trick - you add up all the digits of a number

(Ex. For 51 you would do 5 + 1 = 6) If the answer is divisible by 3, then the WHOLE NUMBER is divisible by three

(For 51 you got 6, which is divisible by 3; therefore, 51 is divisible by three). This rule also works for the number 9.
What are FACTORS of PRIME numbers?
are all the COUNTING numbers that DIVIDE exactly into the number you have.
What is the best way to figure out if a number (especially a large number) is prime?
Try eliminating those that are not primes numbers first.

step 1. except number 2, all other even numbers are not primes.

step 2. except number 5, all other numbers divisible by 5 are not primes

so far so good :), now comes the harder part especially with larger numbers

step 3: start with the next lowest prime next to number 2, which is number 3 and use long division to see if I can divide the number.

step 4: repeat step 3 with trying to divide by the prime 5, 7 , 11 and onward until the prime is found or not
When MULTIPLYING, how do you MOVE the decimal?
move the decimal point to the RIGHT according to how many zero's the number you have to multiply by will be.

EXAMPLE: 4.56 x 10 = 45.62
4.56 x 100 = 456.0
When DIVIDING, how do you MOVE the decimal?
move the decimal point to the LEFT according to how many zero's the number you have to divide by.

EXAMPLE: 4.56 / 10 = 0.456
4.56 / 100 = 0.0456
How do you SIMPLIFY a FRACTION?
DIVIDE the TOP and BOTTOM by the HIGHEST number that can divide into both numbers exactly

EXAMPLE: Simplify the fraction 8/12

1. The largest number that goes exactly into BOTH 8 and 12 is 4, so the Greatest Common Factor is 4.

2. Divide both top and bottom by 4:
a Golden Rule when dividing fractions is, ......
BIGGER number ALWAYS goes UNDER smaller number
a Golden Rule when dividing old and new amounts
always divide OLD amount by NEW amount

EXAMPLE:

new amount
---------------
old amount
what do u do when an ALGEBRAIC EQUATION is big :
5a + 3b - 2a - 6b = ?
Put them in groups.

EXAMPLE: Group a's together and b's together

5a - 2a = 3a

3b - 6b = -3b

3a + -3b = 0ab
