1. Your E-cylinder oxygen tank reads 1200 psi. How long with this last at 6 L/m flow rate?
1200 psi x 5 L/14.7 psi

6000/14.7 = 408 min/6 L/min ~ 68 minutes

Also from new Barash page 654: remaining time in hours = psi/200 x L/m flow rate

1200/200 x 6 = 1200/1200 - approximately 1 hour
2. Same E-cylinder - Figure if 600 psi at a 2 L/m flow rate.
600 psi x 5 L/14.7 psi = 204 L/2 L/min ~ 102 minutes
Oxygen E-cylinder reads 1500 psi at 22 degrees C. If the temperature drops to 14 degrees C what will the gauge read? Hint 1500 is P1, 22 C is T1, 14 C is T2 therefore you need to figure for P2. Whose law is this?
P2 = (P1xT2)/T1

P2 = (1500 psi x 287 K)/295 K

P2 = 430500/295 K

P2 = 1459 psi

Did you remember to the convert temp to Kelvin scale?

Gay-Lussac’s law
4. Oxygen E-cylinder is full @ 2000 psi at 70 degrees F. There is a fire and if the gauge climbs to 2300 psi, what is the temperature in Fahrenheit? No hints this time…
T2 = (T1 x P2)/P1

T2 = (294 K x 2300 psi)/2000 psi

T2 = 676200/2000

T2 = 338 K – 273 = 65 C or 149 F. Did the triangle help? This is Gay-Lussac or the third law.
