Roman Catholic view on divorce

Marriage is a sacrament so marriage is for


life; divorce is frowned upon but annulment


is allowed

Define annulment

The only permitted way to end a marriage in

Catholicism - this declares that the marriage


never occurred in the first place

When can a couple get an annulment?

Unlike divorce (where a couple has to wait at


least 1 year), you can get a marriage annulled at


any time after the wedding

Protestant view on divorce

Marriage is for life and divorce is allowed when


its the lesser of two evils. Some priests choose


not to remarry people who have already had a


divorce, however they can offer a blessing after


the couple has had a civil marriage outside of


church.

Why do free churches allow divorce?

They argue that when love dies between the


couple, so does the marriage.
