What is thematic map?



A thematic map is a type of map especially designed to show a particular theme connected with a specific geographic area. These maps can portray physical, social, political, cultural, economic, sociological, agricultural, or any other aspects of a city, state, region, nation, or continent".

How to read scale

Scaling is a method used to draw a structure at an appropriate size and keep the proportions the same. Scales are generally expressed as ratios and the most commonly used scales are:


- 1:100 – one centimeter is equivalent to one meter/100 centimeters (this is best and easiest to use for residential developments)


- 1:200 – one centimeter is equivalent to 2 meters/200 centimeters (this is best and easiest to use for industrial, commercial or larger developments)


- 1:50 – one centimeter is equivalent to ½ of a meter/50 centimeters


- 1:20 – one centimeter is equivalent to ¼ of a meter/20 centimeters

The International Date Line (IDL) is an imaginary line of longitude on the Earth's surface located at about degrees east (or west) of the Greenwich Meridian.
