What are the advanatages of autoclaving?
fast, cheap, no toxic products/residue
What are the disadvantages of autoclaving?
Damage to heat sensitive items (rubber & plastic), blunting of cutting edges, corrosion of metal surfaces, degradation of drugs
What is dry heat sterilization
Like autoclaving, but no steam -> slow, but does not corrode metals or blunt instruments
What do gluteraldehydes kill?
Pretty much everything (may leave some spores)
What are advantages of gluteraldehydes?
High level disinfection w/in 30 minutes, sterilization w/in 3-10 hours
