How much PEEP does the ventilator relief valve provide in ascending bellows?
2.5 cm H2O PEEP
Why does the ventilator relief valve provide PEEP?
Makes sure bellows fill before gas goes to the scavenging system
How does the PEEP valve work on the ventilator?
As the control is rotated, a magnet moves closer to/farther from a magnetic valve. Thus, as flow/pressure falls, the magnets attract, providing back pressure/closing the valve
What is your SaO2 at a PaO2 of 60 mmHg?
90%
Describe the pressure limit control
If PIP > spring pressure, valve opens and driving gas is vented to atmosphere -> bellows stop moving
Descrie Piston ventilators
Minimal/no pneumatic O2 needed, Electronically controlled, very accurate TV< esp w/ pts w/ poor compliance, more modes (CMV, SIMB, PCV, PSV), no mandatory peed
Which machines have piston ventilators?
NAD 6000, 6400, Fabius (only visible on the Fabius)
Why fresh gas decoupling?
Because FGF adds to tidal volume during inspiration -> potential for barotrauma, esp. in kids
How does fresh gas decoupling work in NAD machines?
During inhalation, FGF is diverted to the resevoir bag by a decoupling valve b/t the FGF and ventilator circuit. On inspiration, negative pressure relief valve opens and entrains room air if resevoir contents+exhaled gasses are insufficient to fill bellows.
What happens on NAD machines if the bag isn't on?
Entrainment of room air -> dilution of anesthetic.
How does Ohmeda do compensation for FGF?
D-lite sensors just before patient adjust delivered TV to preset TV. (Don't throw these away).
