What do lymph organs house
lymphocytes
Where are lymphoctytes located?
some in bloodstream MOST in the lymphatic structures and organs
Lymphatic organs assist lymphocytes in doing what?
assist in these cells' maturations, while others serve as a site for lymphocyte replication (mitosis).
What type of cells do do lymph structures contain, where are they located, and what do they do?
T-lymphocytes: located in thymus gland, they kill foreign invaders (antigen)
Blympohcytes: Produced in bone marrow, produce soluble proteins called "antibodies" that bind to and immobilize the foreign or abnormal agent, thus damaging it or identifying it to to other elements of the immune system. and macrophages |
What are antigens?
substances perceived as abnormal to the body, such as bacteria, viruses, and even cancer cells.
The cells in the lymph system constantly do what?
monitor the blood and interstitial fluid for foreign antigens
What is involved in the immune response against antigens?
(B-lymphs produce antibodies that bind to and immobilize the foreign or abnormal agent, thus damaging it or identifying it to other elements of the immune system,
T-lymphs attack and destroy the antigen directly. B-memory and T-memory cells, which remember the past antigen encounters and initiate an even faster and more powerful immune response should the same antigen appear again. |
What are antibodies?
soluble proteins
What od b-memory and T-memory cells do?
Remember the past antigen encounters and initiate an even faster and more powerful immune response should the same antigen appear again
