1) Cough, wheezing, asthma, oppression and pain of the chest, phlegm (lung is container of phlegm which likes to gather in the chest)
2) Febrile disease with lung symptoms, wasting and thirsting disorder, dry cough
3) Swelling of the face, edema (d.t. problems w/ water metabolism
4) Vomiting and nausea

Functions and Indications
Functions:

1) Clears Lung Heat and disperses and descends the Lung Qi to relive cough and wheezing
2) Calms the Spirit (tian=sky or heaven, fu=house - It is place where Qi converges)
3) Cools Blood and stops bleeding. Fire scorching the lung.
Indications:

1)Cough, wheezing, oppression of the chest
2) Emotional disorders: Sadness, weeping, somnolence, insomnia, depression, forgetfulness, disorientation
3) Epistaxis, hemoptysis

Functions:
1) Clears Lung Heat and Descends Rebellious Qi
2) Resolves Phlegm in the Lungs
3) Activates the channel and alleviates pain
4) Subdues Rebellious Stomach Qi
5) Nourish yin and moisten lung (water point)

1) Cough, whezing, fever, hemoptysis, sore throat, oppression and pain of the chest
2) Coughing with expectoration of profuse phlegm
3) Pain of the shoulder and elbow
4) Enuresis and frequent urination
5) Acute diarrhea and vomiting

Functions:
1) Releases the exterior and expels Wind (Wind attack - same as DU 14)
2) Promotes the dispersing and descending function of the Lungs and alleviates cough
3) Regulates the Ren Mai
4) Regulates the water passages
5) Activates the channel and relieves pain.
TREATS DEFICIENCY SYNDROMES, RELEASE EXTERIOR, EXPEL WIND, USED WHEN GET A COLD
Indications:
1) Chills, fever, headache, stiff neck, floating pulse, no sweating during a cold or sweating with no abatement of symptoms
2) Cough, wheezing, pain and oppression of the chest
3) Sore throat
4) Dysuria, edema, hematuria (b/c obstruction in LU channel)
5) Pain of the genitals, dysmenorrheal
6) Facial edema, urinary retention
7) Headache, pain and stiffness of the neck

Indications:
1) Weak pulse, weak voice, shortness of breath, chronic, weak cough, fatigue, spontaneous sweating, allergies, susceptibility to colds and flu
2) Chronically dry, sore throat, dry mouth, chronic, weak cough with scanty sputum, hemoptysis, night sweating
3) Cough, wheezing, dyspnea
4) Pain and oppression of the chest, weak pulse, palpitation, cold hands and feet

Techniques (Needling and Moxibustion)
Needling:

1) Puncture obliquely 0.5-0.8 cun toward lateral aspect of chest.

CAUTION:
Deep perpendicular or oblique insertion towards anterior midline may induce pneumothorax
Moxibustion:

3-5 minutes for moxa cones
5-15 minutes for moxa rolls

May also use External application of medicine
LU 3 Techniques
1) Puncture obliquely 0.5-1.0 cun toward the lateral aspect of the chest

CAUTION: Deep oblique insertion towards the anterior midline may cause a pneumothorax
Moxibustion:

moxacone 3-5 minutes; moxa roll 5-15 minutes.

1) Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun
2) Prick with 3-edged needle (for severe stasis or heat)

CAUTION: Avoid puncturing the cubital vein
Moxibustion:

3-7 minutes for moxa cone
5-10 minutes for moxa roll

Puncture obliquely 0.5-1.0 cun
Induce a sore or heavy needling sensation
CAUTION: Avoid puncturing the cephalic vein.
Moxibustion
3-7 units for moxa cone and 5-10 minutes for moxaroll
Direct moxibustion not recommended

Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun and induce a sore and heavy needling sensation.

CAUTION: Avoid puncturing the radial artery and vein
Moxibustion:

5-7 minutes for moxa cones
10-20 minutes for moxa roll.

Puncture perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun
Induce local sore and heavy needling sensation
CAUTION: Avoid puncturing the radial artery
