longitude lines
imaginary lines that run north and south, also known as meridians.
latitude lines
imaginary lines that run east the west around the globe, also known as parallels.
Hemisphere
a term for half of the globe.
projections
a way of showing the curved surface on Earth on a flat map.
mercator projection
Shows most of the continents as they look on a globe.
azimuthal projection
shows Earth so the a straight line from the central point to any other point on the map corresponds to the shortest distance between two points.
homolosine projection
this projection shows land masses' shapes and sizes accurately, but but distances are not correct.
robinson projection
shows the entire Earth, with continents and oceans having nearly their true sizes and shapes.
