brindle
Used to describe animal coats, in particular cats, dogs, and cows:

1. Tawny or grayish with darker streaks or spots.

2. Having a gray or brown streak, or a patchy coloring.

"[The brindle coloring] is sometimes described as 'tiger striped', although the brindle pattern is more subtle than that of a tiger's coat."

Synthesis: Dark markings, usually in the form of streaks, on a lighter gray or brown background.
