Style

How an author selects and arranges words to express an idea

Tone

Attitude of the speaker or narrator of a work towards the subject, characters, or the audience, as determined by word choice, use of imagery, and so on.

Stream of consciousness

Form of narration controlled not by external events but by the thoughts and subjective impressions of the narrator.

Alliteration

Repetition of a consonant sounds in a series of words.

Formal diction

Diction that is lofty and elaborate, with a learned vocabulary and detached tone.

Informal diction

Diction that is idiomatic and relaxed, like everyday speech

Imagery

Words and phrases that describe the five senses, most often sight.
