Why are LINE PLOTS useful?

You can make a line plot to record each piece of data on a number line.
Example: 


What does the term "MODE" mean?

The MODE is the number or item found most often in a set of data.

Remember the word MODE begins just like the word MOst.


What does the term "RANGE" mean?

The range is the difference between the greatest number and the least number in a set of numbers.
Example: 1,2,3,4,4,4,5,7 Subtract: 71=6 The range is 6. 


What does the term "MEAN" mean?

The MEAN is the number found by dividing the sum of a set of numbers by the number of addends.
Example: Find the "MEAN" for 2,3,5,5,6, and 9. 30÷6=5 So, the "MEAN" is 5. 


What does the term "MEDIAN" mean?

The median is the middle number in an ordered list of of numbers.
Example: 1,3,4,6,7 The number 4 is the middle number or the median.
