Chromosomes
Structures in a cell's nucleus that are composed mostly of genes. The are located on long molecules of DNA.
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) contains...
the genetic code for making up proteins in the cell.
Chromosomes are responsible...
for carrying genes from parent organisms to their offspring. Rod-shaped structures in the nucleus of each cell.
Reproductive Cells
Have half the number of chromosomes than an organisms other cells. Ex. Human sex cells have 23 chromosomes & other cells have 46.
One chromosome can contain thousands of genes on a single molecule of DNA.
Sides of the DNA are made of DEOXYRIBOSE - a sugar - and a phosphate.
DNA STRUCTURE
Each ring of the ladder is made up of a pair of nitrogen based.
These 4 bases: adenine(A), guanine(G), thymine(T), cytosine(C).
These 4 bases pair up in a specific way: A always pairs up with T, and G always pairs up with C.
DNA Controls...
The cell's reproduction of proteins, which help determine all the characteristics & processes of the organism.
Protein Synthesis
1. Protein Synthesis - information from a gene from a cells nucleus is used to produce protein in ribosomes.

2. RNA(Ribonucleic Acid) - transmits code the from DNA

3. Codon- set of 3 bases pairs on the RNA(codes for amino acid)

4. Amino Acid - building block of protein.
