What is Forefoot Vatral position and varus?
a structural abnormality in which the foot is inverted relative to the rearfoot, when the STJ is in its neutral position and the MTJ is locked at both its axes
What is Forefoot Supinatus
a fixed supinated position of the LA of the MTJ which is secondary to STJ pronation when the calcaneus is everted. It is a 2 degrees positional deformity resulting from tissue adaptation
What is the Aetiology of Forefoot varus?
- Theorised to be failure of the normal development of valgus torsion in the head and neck of the talus
- Pf of the cubiod resulting in pf 4th and 5th met
- Pf 5th met
What is the difference between Forefoot Varus and Forefoot supinatus?
In the assessment position (STJ neutrall and MTJ locked), if an inverted forefoot if present and there is a spongey resistance to eversion ofthe LA of the MTJ, Ffoot supinatus is present, often concoitant with a varus
How can forefoot supinatus be reduced?
It may be reduced with orthotic therapy, and so should be recognised and or casted out in negative casting.
What are the pathomechanics of Ffoot varus and supinatus?
- Ffoot is inverted with forefoot loading
- Increase ground reaction forces lateral to STJ axis
- STJ pronation until Ffoot contacts or STJ ROM is used up
