Leader
formal position of a specific person with power over others in a group. Required to communicate authoritatively, run agenda, move forward in ways that others should follow.
Designated Leader
Formal Power held by group leader. Doesn't always mean they are skilled at leading or respected by the group as the leader.
Emergent Leader
Informal power given to those who best communicate and have the most respect from the group. The most liked person usually due to communication competence rather than formality.
Power in groups is not always as clear as it seems from the designated structure.
Socioemotional Leader
Pays attention to how everyone feels in the group allowing them to have a say in decisions. Manages people's "face" rather than evaluating based only on performance.

Different than a Task Leader who is more focused on performance than feelings.
Leadership is a process not a trait or characteristic.

It's a transaction where one person gives direction and the other carries it out.
Instruments of Domination
Orgs not seen as friends, but metaphorically shape and control not only worker behavior but even their thoughts and ideology.

Many people feel work is not only undesirable but oppressive.
Lots of freedom is sacrificed in order to devote time to work for your employer. (autonomy-connectedness)
