LAS 432 Week 7 DQ 2 Globalization and the Threat to the Environment
Download answer at https://www.examtutorials.com/course/las-432-week-7-dq-2-globalization-and-the-threat-to-the-environment/
Globalization and the Threat to the Environment (graded) Before we decide what to do about the environment globally, let’s see what we can do locally. What environmental problems are you aware of in the area where you live? What solutions, from among those proposed by the authors of the essays, do you think would be the most appropriate to solve these problems? Before you latch on to solutions of one kind or another to the environment problem, keep this in mind: it is easy to think of solutions, it is a problem to make them work. If you know anything about the invention of heavier than air flight (airplanes), you know that there were literally thousands of attempts and plans that seem today to be laughable in their naiveté before one finally worked. This involves not only technical issues but something that is always involved in change, change usually involves unintended consequences. Think of DDT that was to solve the problem of mosquitos and typhoid fever carried by mosquitos. It also entered the food chain, affected predator birds like eagles at the top of their food chain, weakened the shells of their eggs so that the eggs broke and raptor bird populations crashed in many places where DDT was used. Can you be sure your solutions won't have dangerous unintended consequences? Also each individual should strive to be environmentally conscience. Everyone should work to reduce their impact on the environment by recycling items and saving water and electricity where possible. I also think there should be research and innovation targeted solar power. At ASU in Tempe, AZ the school worked with a solar upstart company to mount 1000's of panels over large parking lots. This provides a huge source of power to the University and allows the school to save on energy costs and use those extra funds for student assistance. The past two employers I have worked for have implemented a program to use solar power panels throughout our parking lots and shaded parking areas. In Phoenix we have quite a problem with the city and surrounding suburbs spreading out over 50 miles. This creates a lot of congestion and smog from driving. The smog blankets the city in the summer. The local news issues air quality alerts to advise people to stay indoors and not gas up their vehicles later in the evening, etc.
