How are narratives categorized?
scripts, recounts, account, eventcasts, fictional stories
Describe script narratives
share knowledge of a familiar, recurring event. It is usually told using the second person pronoun you and the present tense.
Describe recount narratives
Child explains by reporting an event the child participated/ observed/ or read about. Typically an adult requesting the child to report the experience has shared the experience with the child .
Describe account narratives
Child independently shares his/her expereince with a listener. The listener does not experience the event with the child. Highly individualized narratives.
Describe eventcast narratives
Child explains current/ acticipated event & may use eventcast to direct others during play sequence.
Describe fictional stories
Known & anticipated structure. Listener has to interpret info presented. Main character has to overcome a problem/ challenge.
