Mental Models
Students enduring beliefs and expectations about what they are like and what other people are life.
Ex. Of Self- am I lovable, do I deserve attention and care? Of Others- are others responsive? are they trustworthy?
Trust
Confidence that the other person in the relationship cares, is looking out for your welfare and will be there when needed
Social Competence
How skilled children and adolescents are at managing the often frustrating and challenging experiences they have with other people
Identity
The sense of being a distinct and productive individual within the larger social framework
Situational Compliance
Co-operatively carrying out a teachers directions (do this, dont do that) with a sense of obligation rather than true commitment.
"I'm only doing my homework because I can't play with friends until I'm done"
Relationship
Interaction between two people in which the actions of one person affect the thoughts, feelings and actions of the other person and vice versa
Relatedness
The pyschological need to establish close emotional bonds and attachements with other people
Pyschosocial Development
A broad term to describe the quality of a persons social development as a function of past relationships in ones life
Supportiveness
An affirmation of the other persons capacity for self direction and contribution to help realize his or her self set goals
Instrumental Aggression
Strategic behavior to obtain something one desires through the use of harm inflicted on another person
Power Assertion
A socialization strategy designed to gain complience through coercion, pressure, forceful insistence and a negative or critcal interaction style
Initiative
The childs capacity to use a surplus of energy to plan and constructively carry out a task
Social Comparison
The act of comparing ones personal characteristics, performance and abilities to those of others
Commited Compliance
Co-operatively carrying out a request (do this, dont do that) with an eager, willing and sincere commitment "I'm doing my homework because I really want to do well, its important to ME"
Moral Development
Students judgements about what is right and wrong, and the reasoning behind those beliefs.
Gentle Discipline
A socialization strategy that revolves around explaining why a way of thinking or behaving is right or wrong
Attachment
A close emotional relationship between two persons that is characterized by mutual affection and the desire to maintian proximity with the other
Generativity
The sense of beign productive in ones work and in looking after and guiding others
Conscience
The capacity to use ones moral cognition, moral emotions and moral self to inhibit aggression and to initiate alturism and helping

Trust applied to ones self; an attitude that one is worthy of a positive or negative self evaluation

Hostile Aggression
The anger driven inpulse to inflict intentional harm on another person
Care
An emotional concern or sense of responsibility to protect or enhance another persons wellfare or well being
Competence
The pyschological need to be effective as one interacts with the surrounding environment
Aggression
Any intentional behavior designed to harm another person or group physically or pyschologically
Emotion Regulation
The capacity to modulate or calm internal emotional reactivity during stressful situations
Self Concept
Set of beliefs the individual uses to understand or represent his or her sense of self
Attunement
Sensing and reading anothers state of being and adjusting ones own behavior accordingly
