Hegemony

the dominance (social, cultural, political, economic) of one group over another; often supported by practicesand ideas that normalize the dominance of one group and the subjugation of the other.

INTERSECTIONALITY

A theory that seeks to examine how biological, social, and cultural categories like race, gender, class and sexualorientation interact on multiple and often times simultaneous levels. These interlocking identities and systemsof oppression have contributed to systematic injustice and social inequality. The theory holds that classicconceptions of oppression such as racism, sexism, and homophobia do not act independently of one another.Rather, these forms of oppression interlock and create a system of oppression that reflects the “intersection”of multiple forms of discrimination.

IDEOLOGY

A presentation of the way things are which does not accord with reality but which works in the interests of thedominant classes, groups or institutions in society.
