Speed =
Speed = Distance / Time
Average Speed =
Average Speed = Total Distance / Total Time
Only __ x __ and __ + __ yield odd numbers.
Only (ODD) x (ODD) and (ODD) + (EVEN) yield odd numbers.
Inequalities should be treated exactly like equations, with two exceptions:
1. When we multiply or divide an inequality by a NEGATIVE number, we must reverse the direction of the inequality sign.
2. Single-variable equations are usually solved for a specific value, whereas inequalities can only be solved for a range of values.
Simple Interest Formula
(Total of Principle and Interest) = Principle x (1 + rt)

r = the annual interest rate expressed as a decimal, and t = the number of years
Compound Interest Formula
(Total of Principal and Interest) = Principal x (1 + r)^t

r = the annual interest rate divided by the number of times the interest is compounded per year, expressed as a decimal. t = number of times that interest compounds in the given time period
Combined Work =

Two persons/things
T = AB / A + B

T = time both persons/things take to do the job when they work together and independently.
Combined Work =

Three persons/things
T = ABC / AB + BC + AC
Weighted Average of n terms =
Weighted Average of n terms = (Percent1)(Average1) + (Percent2)(Average2) + ... + (Percentn)(Averagen)
Combination Formula =
n! / k!(n-k)!

gives the number of UNORDERED subgroups of k items that can be selected from a group of n different items, where k < n. If n is a positive integer, n! is the product of the first n positive integer.
Permutation Formula =
n! / (n-k)!

gives the number of ORDERED subgroups of k items that can be made from a set of n different items, where k < n.
Staffing a shift - when would you use the combination formula? When would you use the permutation formula?
- combination (unordered) if you don't care who works and when they work

- permutation (ordered) if you need certain people at certain days and/or times
Probability =
Probability = Number of Desired Outcomes / Total Number of Outcomes
Sum of the probabilities of all possible outcomes is __?
1
Integer x is divisible by 2. Is x/2 even?
By def. ant multiple of 2 is even, so integer x is even. and x/2 must be an integer. but is x/2 even or odd? Pick 2 numbers for x: x=4 vs. x=6
using averages to find a missing number.
Terms = (Average)(Numer of Terms)

pg. 66
Integer x is evenly divisible by 2. Is x/2 even?
By definition, any mulitple of 2 is even, so integer x is even. And x/2 must be an integer. But is x=4, then x/2=4/2=2 which is even. But is x=6, then x/2=6/2=3 an even. x can be even or odd.
Two years ago, 450 seniors graduated from inman High School. Last year, 600 seniors graduated. By what percentage did the number of graduating seniors increase?
Original figure = 450. Increase = 600-450=150. So the percentage increase is 150/450(100%) = 33 1/3%
