Who are the Public?
The public are any group whose members have a common interest or common values in a particular situation.
What is an audience?
An audience refers to more of a static, ‘reception’-orientation to messages we communicate. No common purpose; no common set of values. Think 1-way communication orientation.
What is a market?
Consumers to whom a product or service is directed. Think advertising/ marketing/ sales orientation.

Positive or negative labels we attach to people.Ex( "wise" "liar" "ugly" "terrorist")
What is Glittering Generalities?
Nebulous words to describe. Ex. ("angry mob")
What is Transfer?
Celebrities fame transfers to cause or issue he/she promotes. Ex.(Michael J Fox and Parkinsons disease.)
What is Testimonial?
Celebrity gives outright endorsement of product of public issue stance
What is Plain folks?
Symbolic effort to bring "high and might" persons down to our level.
ex. ( the obama's effort to make the white house, "the white peoples house.")
What is Bandwagon?
Symbolic effort to demonstrate that everyone is doing it.
What is Card Stacking?
Presented facts that show only one side of the story. ex. ( the argument that all muslims are fundamentalists who hate USA.)
What is Emotional Stereotypes?
Emotional laden symbols and rhetoric to influence the audience feeling's and turn off rational thinking. Ex( "illegal alien" "Snobby professor" "lazy student" "proud american"

With holding info that would other wise correct a false impression.

What is War-Mongering?
Any effort to make war acceptable to the citizens. Portray war as the only option.
What is Subversive ?
Any rhetorical or symbolic effort to overturn the existing political order. (The U.S. voice of america broadcast into other nations. ex cuba. to let there public know whats going on in attempt to overturn castro)
What is Defamatory?
Any effort to insult another nation or its people in an effort to drag down morale or disturb peaceful relations. (ex. the in wwII the tokyo radio would broadcast tokyo women relaying defamatory messages to american service man.)
What is Private?
Individual private citizens from one nations will work as a group (without gov permission) to overturn another nation, or provide aid and comfort to the enemy.
What ways can film act as a propaganda tool?
Through subject matter
Through dialogue and dramatic action
Through characters and the actors who play them
Through the editing and technical presentation
Through the choice of lighting, scenery, backgrounds, props. etc.
What can film expose?
expose events of the present and past.It can bring events that would have escaped our memory or an event that we may have not known as much about.

They can raise future issues. (EX. about pollution and sustainability)
