The legs pass each other in a scissor like action in the air; first kicking leg becomes the landing support leg
Grand battement
Up high straight leg lift (90% or higher; idealy)
Layout
Kick in any direction with the torso parallel to the floor in the opposite direction
Fan kick
The leg makes a sweeping arch through space; crosses in front of body, then sweeps to make half circle before touching

Four steps done in a square; first step is usually crossed

Traveling step; step on one foot across the other, execute the ball change in an open second position

Warm-up
Warm-up exercises stimulates circulation to muscles by progressive movements that gradually stretch, strengthen, align, and coordinate the body
Isolations
Train the dancer to move one part of the body at a time; may be done during warm-up
Locomotor movements
Movements across the floor; stress technical approach to dance, and may introduce movement sequences that will later be used in a dance competition
Dance combination
The culmination of a lesson; tests the dancers technique, coordination, and memory (usually done in center)
Cool down
Prevents soreness, dizziness, light headedness, that could occur if dancer quits rigorous activity abruptly
