What is the SPEC attire?
|
Shirt-Must be white Land's End 60/40% poly/cotton blend long sleeve shirt with a point collar.
Pants- Must be made of solid black polyblend. Belt- Must be solid black, leather, with a silver buckle. Shoes- Must have leather uppers and be polished at all times, no sneaker look. Tie- Must have spec tie clean and tied in a full widsor. Misc.- Bank, Lighter, Crumber, wine key. Apron- Must be spotless, heavily starched, crease down the middle. |

We never refer to our guests as "guys", why?
|
Addressing guests as "guys" is rude and unprofessional. At J. Alexander's we address our guests as ladies, gentleman, sir, miss, ma'am, or by last name if they are regulars (or of some acquaintance).

Professional "speak" during a dining experience separates a superior service experience from the inferior. Why do we not use the phrase "no problem" when speaking with our guests?

We are in the "hospitality" business and it is never a problem to take care of our guests needs.

What is a spec bank?
|
$20 bank consist of two $5 bills, eight $1 bills, and $2 in change.

Where do champions park their cars
|
In the back parking lot behind the restaurant.

Is smoking allowed?
|
No, smoking is not permitted while clocked in or out front of the restaurant.

Where should non-essential items be kept when working?
|
Minimal items should be brought in-only the essentials. Jackets/Coats are to be kept in the champion restrooms or in the blue bin. We cannot be responsible for lost, left, or stolen items.

What is tip share and why does J. Alexander's support it?
|
Three percent of server total sales goes to the hosti and pubkeep staff. We believe tip sharing helps everyone take part in the guest's total dining experience.

With whom should you discuss your tips?
|
No one-it is your business.

What is the company's sexual harassment and discrimination policy?
|
J. Alexander's is committed to providing a work environment that is free of discrimination and unlawful harassment. Sexual harassment is a form of employee misconduct that is demeaning to another person and undermines the integrity of the employment relationship and is strictly prohibited.

|

If you are required to put someone on hold, the guest must only be on hold for no more than 30 seconds. Always ask for the guest's name. |

Do we accept reservations or call-ahead seating? Explain our policies.

We do not accept reservations. For parties 5 or more it is first come first serve basis. Call-head is facilitated for parties of 4 or less, when we are on a wait. "we do offer call ahead seating. Please give us a call 30 minutes before you come in and we will be happy to put you on our call ahead seating list."

What forms of payment do we accept?
|
Cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, Carte Blanche, personal checks and traveler's checks are not accepted.

What is proper dress for champions visiting the restaurant (e.g. to dine) when "off the clock?"
|
Casual appropriate. Every Champion represent J. Alexander's 100% of the time..on or off the clock.

When are you allowed to sit at the pub top?
|
Champions are not allowed to sit at the pub-top either off or on the clock. This distracts the pubkeepers and does not allow for spectacular service for our guests.

Who is the "Internal Guest" and what does that mean to you?
|
Any Champion who works for J. Alexander's. They should be treated the way they want to be treated; with the same empathy and respect any guest deserves. The internal guest is also a Champion applicant, purveyor, contractor, etc. -Anyone who walks in the door of the restaurant and is not entering to dine in the restaurant.

What does being "on time" for a schedule shift?
|
Clocked in, at lineup in a spec attire 10 minutes before your scheduled shift.
|

What does it mean to be spec?
|
100% the way we do things to our specifications.

Why do we call our employees "Champions?"
|
J. Alexander's desires to employ those individuals with an intense desire to be the best. Our employees must posses a Champion attitude to deliver the best food and service in the industry.

What procedure is followed in order to cover a shift?
|
The name and initials of the champion giving up the shift and the champion picking up the shift in the Blue Book, approved and signed by a coach.
|

What does AOA mean and when is it used?
|
Audible order acknowledgement. This is our "consider it done" acknowledgement when a team member needs assistance.
|

On what items may you apply your champion discount and how much is the discount? Can you use both a comp card and your champion discount at the same time?
|
All champions will receive a 40% discount on food items and non-alcoholic beverages. This discount applies to the Champions meal only and includes appetizer, entrees, and desserts. YOU MAY NOT, ON ANY OCCASION, USE BOTH THE CHAMPION DISCOUNT AS WELL AS A COMP CARD.
