Abu Nidal Group
An organizations led by Abu Nidal (“Father of the Struggle”), a PLO renegade, opposed to the state of Israel. In 1983, Iraqi president Saddam Hussein expelled Abu Nidal and his group in an attempt to win U.S. support in his war with Iran.

December 1985: Two simultaneous attacks on El Al ticket counters in Rome and Vienna.
Al Nakba
Literally means the “disaster.” Word used by Palestinians to refer to the 1948 war, describing the destruction of the Palestinian community in the territory of Israel and the expulsion or flight of almost three-quarters of a million Palestinians. The Israelis refer to the same event as the War of Independence.
Black September
The name given to the brutal suppression of PLO guerillas, and their expulsion from Jordan, following an aborted insurrection in 1970. Arafat and Fatah uncharacteristically through support behind the PLO and PFLP. PLO relocated to Lebanon.
Fedayeen
Literally, “self-sacrificers” or “freedom fighters.” Refers to guerilla fighters. Their presence goads the nation into existence.
