Artificial Intelligence
The science of making machines imitate human thinking and behavior.
The four categories of AI (Does not include GIS)
1. Expert Systems
2. Neural Networks
3. Genetic Algorithms
4. Agent-based technologies
Geographic Information Systems
GIS is a decision support system designed specifically to analyze spatial information
What type of information is viewed spatially?
GIS
Intelligence
Find or recognize a problem, need, or opportunity
Design
Consider possible ways of solving the problem
Database
A collection of information that you organize and access according to logical structure of the information.
Data Dictionary
Centralized repository of information about data such as meaning, relationships to other data, origin, usage, and format.
Relational
A series of logically related two-dimensional tables of files to store information in the form of a database. Links tables to other tables using a key. Most common type of database in business.
What is a key?
it is a unique identifier
Primary key
is a field or a group of fields that uniquely describe each record
Foreign key
a primary key of one file (table) that appears in another file (table)
What is the difference between primary and foreign key?
Primary is when you have one entry of that specific key, foreign is taking that same key and using it in another table, multiple entry of the primary key.
What is integrity?
it is when the data has not been altered
DBMS is?
Database management systems, helps you specify the logical requirements for a database and access and use the information in a database.
How many parts is it made up of?
5
What allows you to define structure? and helps you create and maintain the data dictionary?
Data definition subsystem
What helps you add, remove and change information stored in a database?
Data manipulation subsystem
What are the 5 major parts of DBMS?
1. DBMS Engine (accepts requests from subsystems)
2. Data definition subsystem
3. Data Manipulation subsystem
4. Application generation subsystem
5. Data administration subsystem
What is satisficing?
Making a choice that meets your needs and is satisfactory without necessarily being the best possible available
Knowledge based system?
Expert system
What is an Expert System?
an artificial intelligence system that applies reasoning capabilities to reach a conclusion
B2B
When businesses sell products and other services to another business
B2C
When businesses sells products and other services to individuals
C2B
When an individual sells products or services to a business
C2C
When an individual sells products or service to other individuals
What is it when an auto industry allows customers to make their own UNIQUE cars?
Mass Customization
What is it called when you purchase books on amazon?
B2C
Materials that are used in production in a manufacturing companies or are placed on the shelf for sale in retail environments?
Direct
MRO
materials necessary for running a company but do not relate to the companies primary business activities (office supplies)
Horizontal e-marketplace?
connects buyers and sellers across many industries
Vertical e-marketplace?
connects buyers and sellers in a given industry
Convenience?
typically lower prices but something they often need, usually frequently.
Speciality
Higher priced and ordered less frequently
What key would use a phone number to unique identification?
Primary Key
When happens when a computer/network becomes flooded with junk?
Denial of service (threatens availability)
What is a virus worm?
it is something that duplicates and spreads
Secure Socket Layers
Encrypts information
Encryption
scrambles the contents of a file so that you can read it without having the right decryption key
Fiber Optics
Very thin glass or fiber, backbone if the internet, use the light to transmit information, usually at ultra high speeds.
What is communication media through air?
WIFI
Bandwidth
the amount of data that a communications medium can transfer in a given amount of time. Measurable by bits per second.
Local Area Network
Covers a building or a set of buildings that are close in proximity (office buildings)
Wide Area Network
Covers Lans that are not immediately close to each other
Metropolitan Area Network
Covers an entire metropolitan area
Connects separate networks?
Router
ARPANET
the first project trying to build the internet
1st node was in?
1969
The two men who started ARPANET?
Welsh and Davies
Where were the first 2 nodes?
UCLA and Stanford

(also UCSB and University of Utah)
RFQ means?
Request for quotation
IMP means?
Interface message processor
How many parts are in the decision making process?
4
What is the question you want addressed by the predictive analytics model?
Predictive Goal
How many categories of artificial intelligence are there?
4
What are the two types of keys?
Primary Key and foreign key?
What key would represent a student ID?
Primary key
What are the four phases of the decision making process?
1.Intelligence (problem, need, opportunity recognition)
2. Design (consider way to solve problem)
3. Choice (weighing the merits of each situation)
4. Implementation (carrying out the solution)
A network is a connection between?
Computers
Major difference between internet connections is?
Cost
What are threats to security?
1. Confidentiality
2. Authenticity
3. Availability
4. Integrity
What are agent-based technologies?
1. Autonomous
2. Distributed
3. Mobile
4. Intelligent
5. Multi-agent
What is a switch?
Connects multiple computing devices to a network
Application generation subsystem
contains facilities to help you develop transaction-intensive applications
Data Administration Subsystem
Helps you manage the database (backup and recovery)
What are the types of decisions?
1. Structured
2. Non-structured
3. Recurring
4. Non-recurring
involved processing a certain kind of information in a specified way so that you will always get the right answer
sturctured
Non-structured
there may be several "right" answers, and there i no precise way to get the right answer
is one that happens repeatedly and often periodically.
recurring
non-recurring
Does not happen repeatedly
Fuzzy logic
is a mathematical method of handling imprecise or subjective information (important in text analytic systems)
