Explain the importance of good communicatioin in physical therapy?
Trust is where we build our communiction, becuase communication is extremly complicated and it happens quickly and not aware of it. Lack of Information, Responsiveness and patient feelings Helpless is the most universal complaint of pt, so it is important that PTA have awarness of all aspect of communication like verbal, non-verbal adn listening.
Define the role of trust in the PTA client relationship?
Trust is where we build our communication, support that give idea of respect for a person,pt need to feel safe, pt can rely on people not to hurt or exploit him/her. positive feelings can ensure cooperative and compliance during Rx.
List the three components of a therapeutic relationships as defined by Carl Rogers?
Authentic being real or yourself, Empathetic is ability to understand patients feelings. Unconditional positive regards is respect the pt's no matter what.
List the general goals of communication in PT?
Establish relationship to build trust by introducing self. Give instruction, feedback and motivation, Relay important imformation, toughts and feelings. Ask question to get information.
Identify the importance of listening and describe things interfere with listening.
important because our autonomic response to what we hear reflect us. reaction that have nothing got to do with the pt but with the PTA, based on personal experiences, feelings, culture and social values, ang biases. it takes work to listen and see the other person. things that interfere with listening are Distraction like surrounding, Internal thoughts, PTA can be distracted from the Rx, Jugmental listenning is not hearing what it means to the pt. don not understand the pt. Filter listening is biased or sterotypes.
List the factors that affect the success of verbal communication.
The way material are presented-vocal, clarity,voice & organization.
Attitude of the speaker, tone and volume used.
Finding common language.
Both can listen effectively.
Five component of non- verbal communication are.
Facial experssion, position, posture, gesture, appearance,touch.

List the behavior that the PTA can use to address and remedy this problems of lack of communication when the client is in physical therapy.
Communicate with respect, courtesy, communicate information to pt within jurisdiction and communicate with pt's as you work with them.
Describe the importance of non-vebal communication.
non verbal is 80% stronger than verbal,saying one thing but the body language is saying another thing. can help aid PTA take care pt's that is unable to communicate or have trouble following instruction. Pantomine is when we act out without words for pt of HOH or non english speaking. Demonstration is physically doing the activity on self or pt. Metacommunication is action and words.
Distinguish between three types of behavior: Non-assertive, aggressive, and assertive.
Non assertive is failing to get the point across by being quite or passive. believe that respose or action will be ineffective and pointless.
Assertive is getting the point across with out offending others by direct expression by their own thoughts, feelings and belief. self expressive, respectfull, honest, direct. Aggressive is getting point across using anger, hostilety, sarcastic,and will shame others.
