Ulcerative Colitis

chronic, inflammation and ulceration of the rectum and colon

begins in rectum & spread to colon

Manifestations


Ulcerative Colitis

-bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, semi formed stool,


>Moderate case – 4 -5 stools/day; increased bleeding, systemic symptoms


>Severe case – bloody diarrhea up to 20/per day, with systemic symptoms

occurs in young - to middle age

Nursing Mangement:

-plain water or skin cleanser no harsh soaps to prevent skin breakdown
