What is the difference between one stage and two stage implants?
One stage is an implant that has the abutment section permanently fixed to the root portion of the fixture
Two stage an implant that allows for the placement of an abutment on top of the fixture whenever you desire
What is one stage surgery?
Surger in which the implant fixture is placed in the bone with a healing abutment placed in the implant - the healing abutment comes up through the tissue and is visible in the mouth
(We can leave a healing cap on or immediately place a provisional; this procedure does not require a second surgery to expose the implant)
What is two stage surgery?
Two stage surgery is surgery in which the implant fixture is placed in the bone and the soft tissue is entirely closed over the fixture (an implant sealing screw is placed of top of the implant; i.e. if we are putting a removable denture overtop of the implant, using a 2 stage surgery would make it so we don't get loading while there is healing.)
What are the types of implant provisionals?
Removable partial
Fixed crown
Fixed Bonded
Fixed bridge
Cantilever bridge
Essex Spling (can't chew well with it and traps foor underneath)
Which type of implant provisional:
1. Allows for a provisional in segmental or full arch situations
2. Allows for easy patient cleaning during healing
3. Can create pressure on the healing tissues
4. Patients who have never had a removable prosthesis are fearful of something removable in their mouth
5. Phonetic and chewing issues (basically a retainer with a tooth on it; will trap food underneath it)
