c Unable Climb/Descend 500 FPM
d Missed Approach
e Change TAS 5% or 10KTS
f Time/Alt Reaching Clearance Limit
g Leaving Holding Fix
h Hazardous WX Conditions
I Equipment Loss
j Safety Concerns
What reporting requirements are required by ATC when not in radar contact?
a. Nonprecision: when leaving the final approach fix inbound on final approach
Precision: leaving the outermarker (or fix used in lieu) inbound on final approach
b. A corrected estimate as previously submitted is in error in excess of 3 min
Position report information:
Identification
Position
Time
Altitude
Type of flight plan (not required in IFR position reports made directly to ARTCC's or approach control
Are you required to report unforecasted weather encountered in flight
Yes, encountering weather unforecast or hazardous conditions report to ATC
Explain "maintain" and "cruise"
Maintain - Self explanatory: maintain last altitude assigned

Cruise - Is used to assign a block of airspace, from minimum IFR alt up to the altitude assigned (pilots discretion) in cruise clearance.
however once a pilot starts a descent and verbally reports leaving an altitude in the block he may not return to that altitude
without clearance from ATC
When will ATC issue a "cruise clearance"?
a. Conditions permit a descent, approach and landing at an airport within/below/outside controlled airspace and without a
standard instrument approach
b. Conditions such as bad weather or turbulence call for more flexibility for the pilot to avoid weather turbulence.
Why should a Pilot request VFR-On-Top?
An IFR flight plan in VFR conditions may request VFR-On-Top in lieu of assigned altitude for winds, turbulence
and the pilot can select the altitude of choice
Is VFR On Top a VFR clearance or an IFR clearance
IFR
Which air space prohibits VFR-On-Top
Class A airspace
What operational procedures must pilots on IFR flight plans adhere to when operating VFR-On Top?
Fly VFR altitude…odd, even +500
Comply with VFR visibility and distance from clouds
Comply with all other IFR regulations
What is a "clearance limit" and when is it received?
Clearance to a destination or a fix
What information will ATC provide a hold at a fix non-charted?
Direction of hold from the fix.
Holding fix
Radial, course, bearing, airway, or route to hold
Leg length in minutes
Direction of turns
Time to expect further clearance
Max airspeed in holding patterns
MHA-6000'……….200 kts Max Hold Airspeed
6001 - 14,000' …..230 kts
14,001 - and above..265 kts
What is non-standard verses a standard holding pattern?
Standard are right turns
Non Standard are left turns
Describe the cross wind correction in a holding pattern
Compensate for wind direction on the inbound and outbound legs.
When outbound…triple the inbound correction.
Example: Inbound 360 w 10° correction 350 Then outbound 30° 210
What action is appropriate when approaching a holding fix at an airspeed in excess of the hold max
Start speed reduction 3 minutes
Why is it important to receive an EFC time with initial holding instructions?
In case of lost communications you would know when to depart the holding pattern
Leg length of standard hold pattern.
1 minute inbound below 14000' msl
1-½ minute above 14000' msl
When does the timing start for the outbound leg in a holding
Over/abeam the fix
What regulations apply concerning supplemental oxygen?
Above 12,500 up to 14,000 flight crew must use after 30 minutes
Above 14,000 up to 15,000 flight crew must continuously use oxygen
Above 15,000 passengers with supplemental, crew continuously
When may a PIC deviate from ATC clearance
Emergency only
If emergency action requires deviation, must a pilot submit a written report?
If requested by ATC, submit a detailed report within 48hrs to the manager of ATC facility
What is the lost communication transponder code?
Squawk 7600
Explain in detail the lost communication procedure with regard to altitude, routes and
holding?(FAR 91.185)
1. Attempt contact – On previous assigned frequency or with a FSS
2. Monitor – NAVAID the voice feature (cell phone)
3. Transponder – Set Transponder 7600 CODE
IFR Flight Plan / VFR Conditions:
1. Maintain VFR conditions
2. Land soon as practicable
3. Notify ATC after landing
Lost comms procedure on an IFR Flight Plan / IFR Conditions:
R ROUTE (A V E F)

A – Assigned(Last ATC Clearance)
V – Vector
E – Expected Further Clearance
F – Filed (Flight Plan)

A ALTITUDE HIGHEST (M E A)

M – Minimum Enroute Altitude
E – Expected Further Clearance
A – Assigned Last ATC Clearance

T TIME (ETA)
On Time – Land
Early – Hold
A) Is the fix an IAF?
1. Early? Wait for EFC time or ETA and
start the approach
2. Late? Start the approach
immediately
B) The fix is not an IAF:
1. EFC Given? Leave the fix at the EFC
time and fly to IAF for approach
2. Late? Go to the IAF for the
approach and do same as (A) above
If while Enroute to your destination you lost your communication completely, and upon arrival at the airport you were forced to execute a missed approach, what would your next action be?
Go to alternate immediately. ATC will clear the airport area for 30 minutes thus
shooting multiple approaches or holding will create a problem for ATC.
What is the difference between Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) and Minimum Descent Height (MDH)?
MDA: is the lowest altitude you can descend on a nonprecision approach until you see the runway environment.

E. Radio Orientation
What angular deviation from a VOR course is a half scale deflection?
5°…10° full scale deflection
What is reverse sensing?
Reverse of normal operation…headed to with a from indication and from with a to indication.
Flying inbound on the back course or outbound on the front course of an ILS reverse sensing will accrue
What is the procedure for determining the intercept angle when intercepting a VOR?
1) Select the desired radial with the OBS;
2) Turn the airplane to the same heading as the desired radial;
3) Observe the CDI needle deflection. If it's to the right, turn right to intercept the radial. If it's left, turn left. Fly a heading that will yield a 30- to 45-degree intercept angle to the selected radial
(Note: If you are more than 90 degrees from the desired radial, this interception technique will not work and you're better off tracking radials nearer your position);
4) When the needle centers, turn the airplane to a heading that matches the value of the desired radial. Now start tracking.
If crosswind components blow you to the right or left of course, the CDI will move right or left, indicating the need to apply a wind correction angle
to your heading so as to recapture a centered CDI indication.
What is a VOR's degree of accuracy?
± 1°
How do you find an ADF relative bearing
The bearing is read off the ADF dial measured clockwise from 0.
How do you find an ADF Magnetic bearing?
MH+RB=MB
if the sum is more than 360° subtract 360°
What is ADF homing?
Flying a heading keeping the needle on zero until the station is reached
Tracking inbound on an NDB and the needle is pointing 10° to the left…what's you wind drift correction?
Turn 20° left
