To help insure that the materials to be used for a program are suitable for the priority population For each material SAM provides a numerical score in percent that may fall in three categories: superior, adequate or not suitable. 70%-100% = superior material 40-69% = adequate material 0-39% = not suitable material |
charging a fee
Participant fees not only are a means by which programs can be financed but they also help motivate participants to stay involved in a program.
Criteria for charging
If a fee is necessary , then planners should consider creating a fee structure on “ability to pay”. One form is a sliding-scale-fee that is , the less of one’s income, the lower the participant fee.
Budget and the personnel in grant proposal
A program budget is developed by those planning the program. The process begins by examining the financial objective of the program. Budgets are usually created for the entire length of the program. Once the financial obj. is known planners can turn attn. to where will the (revenue)income come. Ie) part of whole from participant fees, grant, gift, contributions, third party, cost sharing (participant fee + third party support), organizational sponsorship…ect. After the revenue is determined planners need to estimate what expenditure are necessary. (ie; personnel, curriculum materials and equipment).
LARGEST expenditure for any program
for personnel, because salaries are included in a budget (detail to show personnel in a program very detailed, social security and fringe benefits included) After pgm up and running budget must be monitored.
BUDGET

Advantages of internal personnel
Reduced costs, Internal arrangements can be made to free needed personnel and more control over those involved.
Disadvantage internal personnel
Limited by interest and ability of existing staff.
Might spend more time developing the prgm than implementing it. May have to train staff or be limited by the expertise of staff. |
Advantages of external personnel
Known expertise. Responsibility of prgm becomes the work of another. Bring global knowledge to prgm. Have resources & sophisticated tools. Can reach priority population that is geographically dispersed.
Disadvantages of external personnel
Expensive, less control over the program, subject to limitations of vendor.
Components of canned programs
5 major components: A participant’s manual. An instructor’s manual. Audiovisual materials (DVD’s, audiotapes, Powerpoint presentations & charts. Training for the instructors & marketing
(what makes the program attractive to the participants & the planners who will buy it to market it to the participants). |
List of questions to buy a canned program
