|
tubular structure with impermeable cuticle and inside there are gonads and intestines. Can be hermaphroditic (both male and female sex organs)
may lay eggs or release larvae. BUT THEY DO NOT MULTIPLY IN THE HOST!!! |

Enterobius vermicularis - roundworm
complciations aren't really that bad - pscyhosis from stigmata is the main one. (pinworm neurosis) tx for 2 weeks (how long eggs are infectious for) - reinfection is common if you don't do this. |

life cycle of pinworm
|
fecal oral. eggs go from hands to mouth
attach in small bowel larvae hatch there and then goes down colon onto anal skin where it releases eggs. usually at night. eggs become mature and infectious in 4-6 hours. they are sticky, get on bed clothes, pajamas, etc. |

pinworm dx
|
clear scotch tape then scope. will see a flattened side and rounded side of the eggs. also characteristic spines on the outside of the cuticles.

more common than pinworm (but not in NE unlike the pinworm which is) - 1/4 world has this increases hydrogen excretion from mouth when lactose ingested |

eating fertilized eggs in soil or leaves of plants.
penetrates the bowel, goes through circulation into lung then larvae develop in the capp and break into the airspace. then coughed out, swallowed, and develop into adults in the bowel. take weeks for egg to become infectious |

will see worms surrounded with eosinophils |
