How do we make D25W?

push out 1/2 of D50 and fill it back up with normal saline

How do we make D10W?

In a 10cc needle, draw 2 cc of D50 then fill the rest of the needle with normal saline



This will make 1g of dextrose in 10 mL

How much D10W do we give for a patient under 30 days?

0.2 g/ Kg (2mL/Kg) to max of 5g (50mL) q. 10 mins to a max dose of 2

How much D25W do we give for a patient that is over and equal to 30 days and under 2 years?

0.5 g/Kg (2ml/kg) to a max of 10g (40ml) q.10 mins to a max of 2 doses

How much D50 do we give for a patient equal or greater then 2 years?

0.5 g/kg (1ml/kg) to max of 25 g (50 ml) q. 10 mins to a max of 2 doses

How much glucagon we we give?

Under 25 Kg: IM 0.5 mg q. 20 mins to a max of 2 doses



Over/ equal to 25 Kg: IM 1mg q.20 mins to max of 2 doses

If a patient responds to dextrose or glucagon but still hypoglycaemic what do we give?

oral glucose

Mild signs of hypoglycaemia and unaltered LOA what can we give if you don't want to start a line or give a needle?
