What is the name if the bacteria which causes the Cholera disease?

Vibro Cholerae Bacteria.

How is the cholera bacteria transmitted into the body?

By the ingestion of contaminated water or more rarely food.

What is the water ingested contaminated with?

It is contaminated with faecal material containing the Vibrio Cholerae bacteria.

What does the Cholera bacteria do when it reaches the small intestines?

It releases toxins.

What do the toxins released do?

They bind to specific receptor on the epithelial cells, sets a chain of events which opens the chloride channels and causes the concentration to reverse.

What happens after the concentration gradient has been reversed?

The chloride ions flow into the lumen.

What happens after the chloride ions flow into the lumen?

Water now osmoses from the high water potential in the blood to the low water potential in the lumen down the concentration gradient.

What causes the chloride ions to flow into the lumen?

The opening of the chloride channels.

What effect does the osmosis of water molecules from the blood to the lumen have on the body?

The body gets dehydrated through the osmosis and the body is not absorbing water.
