Roger Williams
Banished in 1635, he said taking land from Indians is bad, you cannot force religion on people. The first man to introduce freedom of religion.
Anne Hutchinson
1637 Banished for proving the Puritan fathers wree right. Believed you could find God independently. She questioned belief by faith only.
William Penn
converts to Quakerism. 1681 Penn recieves the land of Pennsylvania. he sells land at a low price, does not enforce religiousness, powerful house of representatives.
Bacon's rebellion
Bacon obtains land in Virginia then is attacked by Indian tribes the governor Berkeley does not help him and therefore he kills indians and overthrows government. He is significant because he limited the authority of governors and expanded the powers of the house of burgessses.
Navagation Acts
Passed in 1651, 1660, 1676. Colonies trade with England only, Certain products to England only, Trade with only British ships, colonies do not manufacture. Important because England did not enforce these rules and caused a free market in America.
Enlightenment
John Locke 1790 said we all have natural rights. old lites new lights affected this. Jonathon Edwards emotional preaching. Enlightenment becomes suspicious of religious leaders because not based on logic.

Around 1812 Tecumseh rejected classification as a shawnee and was the first to identify himself as an indian. Significant because it help the Indians to come together as a whole in order to fight the colonies for land. the alligned themselves with the british

Martin Luthers separation from the English church in 1517 helped him to found protestanism. When the colonists moved to North America they were known as puritans.
Protestant Reformation
Martin Luther found many unholy things about the catholic church so he posted 95 thesis on the door of the catholic church in order to protest the chuch and start a new religion.

The state of Virginia is named after the Queen of Engladn who was known as the Virgin queen and to of never been married. Significant because she is the last of the tutor dynasty

Virginia's first legislative assembly in 1619. consisted of a governor, the governors council, (these selected by the king), and representatives (people who owned land in virginia)
Lord Baltimore
received a charter 1627 from charles the first of england in order to start the colony of Maryland. He and his desendants had the right to wage war, collect taxes and establish a colonial nobility. Significant because nobility did not work in the United States

movement began in the 1600 a religious society of friends they were the first to suggest womens rights the abolishment of slavery and end welfare
Fundamental Constitution of Carolina
adopted in 1699 by eight dukes and from virginia to florida. the dukes had a mixture of liberal and fuedalist ideas.
mercantilism
theory that the government depends on the economy adopted in England and Alexander Hamilton wanted to bring these traditions to America.

1770 the germans arrived and 1715 the Scot Irish arrived. they brought Presbyterian and Catholicism in America.

1760 during the Great Awakening Jonathon Edwards preached emotionally and told people what hell would be like, his followers produced new lites. The ones who did not agree are the old lites

1754 Britain and France fought over the east mississippi area in North America. Ended with the Treaty of Paris all of Frances possessions ceded to England
