King Williams War

1689-1697 England joined European coalition against France's Louis XIV. Invasions were cruel

Urban Paradox

After 1740 many of the colonist in cities found economic success hard. Most poor were unskilled, landless men, and widowed women and children. Disease was spread by the unsanitary cities population

Stono Rebellion

Slave uprising 1739 in South Carolina. Stealing guns and ammo from a store at the Stono River. Whites made a new slave code requiring constant surveillance.

James Olgethorpe

Shaped Georgia's early years. Established port of entry in Savannah in 1733. By 1740 nearly 3,000 colonist resided in Georgia. Banned slavery but eventually failed and slavery was made legal in 1750.
