what was daltons atomic theory?
-atoms make up elements
-all atoms in a element are identical
-every element has different atoms
-atoms form 1 element and it can combine w/ another to form compounds
-atoms are not destroyed in chemical reactions
what was thomsons experiment?what did it prove?
-atoms of an element can give of tiny negative particles
-all atoms contain negative particles (electrons)
-atoms must have positive charges so they can balence the electrons.
what was the plum pudding?
-atom might look like a pudding with raisins in random places
-pudding=positive charge
-raisins=electrons
-electrons balance out
Rutherfords experiment
his theory was that an atom has a positive charge somewhere in the atom(nucleus and its in the center)
what he did was he "shot" positive charges to a gold atom
-some would go right through the atom but some would bounce back.
he determined that their was a circle in the middle of an atom that had a positive charge because positive and postivie regect.
the bohr model
an atom looks like
- small w/ a nucleus in the middle and electrons orbiting around like the solar system
-the electrons move in a circular motion
-electrons could jump to a different orbit by recieving or giving light
-his model was wrong because electrons do not move around the nucleus in a circular motion
