What was the north's strategy in the civil war?
1. Try and destroy the south's trade with others (the union blockage) The north would take over coastal towns (st. augustine was taken)
2. Stopped other countries from recognizing confederency, Great Britian got very close. Confederency tried to black mail Brits into recognition but Brit was against slavery and plans backfired.
3. To make people in the south lives hell. Burned home, field etc so people would rejoin the union.
What was the south's strategy in the civil war?
1. Stay on defense. Only twice did south invade the north (gettysburg and Antidum)
2. Get foreign recognition. To get past the union blockage, the brits or french would have to do something about it. Brits make sit ships for confederacy (the Raiders) one of these are called C.S.S Albama which attackls and loots 69 northern ships.
3. Break the union blockage, the south started a new type of ship warefare with using a ironclad ships. One famous ironclad battle is called the U.S.S Monitor vs. U.S.S. Marrimack.
U.S.S Marrimack
Marrimack was a northern ship taken by confederacy . North sets its on fire, leaving a wooden hull. Confederacy rebuilts it an ironclad exterior and renamed it C.S.S Virginia. March 1862, Two chips beat each other up but either sinks, it outdates any other navy. South sinks its own ship to prevent it from falling into northern hands.
