Nat Turner's Rebellion
The biggest slave insurrection that happened in Virginia in 1831. Slaves killer slave owner and family. 55 whites killed and 17 slaves eventually were hanged. Caused Virginia to outlaw teaching blacks to read and write.
American Colonization Society
private group started in 1816 that included philanthropists, ministers, and politicians. The group bought a 36 mile strip of West Africa, hoping Libera would be a haven for free blacks
