David Farragut

He was a Union Navy Admiral



Farragut naval career began as a Shipman when he was nine years old!


Farragut was a prize master who fought in the war of 1812 when he was only 12 years of age.


He is remembered most for the order of the battle of Mobile Bay

Ulysses S Grant

Started out as a commander in the Union army.



Won the victory at the battle of Shiloh


President Lincoln promoted him to lieutenant-general of the Union army. He fought against Robert E. Lee at Appomattox and there the civil war would end.


Ulysses S Grant became president of the united States.

Was a Confederate general during the Civil War



One of the best known confederate generals after Robert E Lee.



He was accidentally shot in 1863. He was alright but he was forced to get his arm amputated.

Lee servers in the U. S. Army before the civil war occured.


Lee did not agree with the states succeeding from the Union. He wanted the Union to stay together. However since his home state succeeded he joined the Confederate army.



Lee surrendered his entire army at the Appomattox this would soon end the civil war.

Was a major general in the Union army during the civil war



Sherman contributed to the war by strategizing the total warfare



Sherman captured the state capitol of the Confederates in Columbia South Carolina

Albert Sidney Johnston

Johnston was a general in the Confederate army



He fought in a few battles but unfortunately died during the battle of Shiloh. He was shot in the leg unaware. He ended up bleeding to death. His death had a significant effect on the Confederate troops.

He was offered a state of commission as a brigadier general but he turned it down and instead accepted the. Rigadier general in the Confederate States army.

His military style put him at odds with Lincoln


He launched a campaign known as the peninsula campaign

Is referred to as the father of photojournalism



He is well known for the documentation of the civil war.



He and his employees photographed thousands of images during the civil war. Such as battlefields and camp sites. His photography had a great impact on the society.

He was cheif of ordinance during the civil war


He managed to keep the Confederate army well supplied in ammunition and weapons despite the Union blockade


He also created a huge gunpowder mill

He was a African American who was a writer,abolitionist,and statesman.


He became a national leader of the abolitionist movement.


He wrote several autobiography


He became the first African American nominee for vice president.
