What is the story of the annexation of Hawaii?
Many Americans called for expansion, Hawaii was plentiful in resources and in 1800 American missionaries started going to Hawaii and bringing over American influence, Americans then started developing Sugar Cane plantations and because there were no tariffs they made a huge profit. Americans gradually took more and more control of Hawaii and then the US imposed a sugar tax in 1890. The natives resented american influence so Queen LiLi took away their power but they revolted and after 2 presidents declined it the annexation of Hawaii was signed.

It gave each foreign power in China the right to trade with other countries spheres of influence
