What is Policing the same as?

Why was using Citizens an ineffective method of policing?
|
They were not trained and were just ordinary people.

What was positive and negative about the army as a method of policing?
|
They were well trained but they could only stop one kind of crime.

Why was Thief Takers a negative method of policing?
|
The Thief Takers were often criminals and set up innocent people to claim the reward.

|
They were the main form of policing but they were nominated from their town so they weren't trained. |

Why were the Watchmen and Sergeants a negative method of policing?
|
Not many crimes were committed inside and they were poorly paid not motivating them to work hard.

|
You could frame innocent people but it is encouraging people to turn others in.

|
There were not always people there to help and I would alarm the criminal making them get away quicker but it does raise the alarm. |

The Charlie's because King Charles introduced them.

|
they were known as the Bellmen because they carried a bell and lantern.

A Constable.

What did the Army do as a method of Policing?
|
They put down Protests and captured gangs.

What were Thief Takers?
|
They made a living out of tracking down criminals and collecting rewards. They were often criminals themselves and set up innocent people.

What were the Citizens to do with Policing?
|
They were meant to deal with the crime themselves and they were responsible for tracking down criminals and catching them.

What were Rewards to do with Policing? |
They offered money for people to capture criminals.

What were the Watchmen?
|
The Watchmen were employed in large towns to patrol streets night and day. They were meant to peer through windows to spot crime. They were poorly paid.

What were the Sergeants?
|
The Sergeants were employed in towns to enforce market regulations and they would give fines and weigh out goods. |

What were Constables?
|
They were the main form of policing. Two men from a community were chosen to be constables for a year and they would deal with everyday matters.

|
The Tudor Justice's of the Peace.

What did the TJP's oversee?
|
Law Enforcement.

|
They were rich and had status. They were respected. They were organised and controlled. They met up to discuss issues. |
