Trait or Phenotype:

A physical charecteristic determined by our genes

Certain expressions of phenotypes can be

Dominant over others

Traits are controled by

1 gene -> Monogenic (Blood type)

>2 genes -> polygenic (eye colour)

Homologous Chromosomes

Have the same genes, and so each gene is present in two copies

Varients of the same gene

Are called Alleles, they determine the variation of the trait

A person with identical alleles for a given gene

Homozygous

A person with different alleles for a given gene

Heterozygous

An allele can be dominant

The dominant allele will be expressed always

It can be recessive

Only gets expressed with two copies of the allele in the homozygous
