- Clears damp-heat, promotes urination, & unblocks Lin: for any type of Lin dysfunction, especially bloody lin.

- Breaks up blood stasis: used as an auxiliary herb for amenorrhea due to blood stasis.

- Antagonizes Sang Piao Xiao

Overdosage can cause drainage of the essential qi

Bian Xu

Bitter, Sweet, Slightly Cold

A&I:
- Clears damp-heat & unblocks lin: for either hot, stony, or bloody lin due to damp-heat.

- Clears heat & stops bleeding: uterine bleeding & bloody lin.

- Clears Lung Heat, expels phlegm, & stops coughs.

C&C:
Use with caution in the absence of damp-heat

Dosage: up to 9g.
In severe cases up to 30g can be used.
Shi Wei
Channels:

Properties:
Sweet, Cold

A&I:
- Promotes urination and unblocks lin: for hot, bloody, or stony lin. Especially when accompanied by constipation.

- Benefits breasts: for insufficient lactation, painful swollen breasts, or early stages of breast abscess.

- Moistens the Intestines & unblocks the bowels: Adjunct herb for constipation due to insufficient fluids in the Intestines.

C&C:
- Diarrhea

Dong Kui Zi

A&I:
- Seperates the pure from the turbid: turbid dampness in the lower burner manifesting in cloudy urine or vaginal discharge

- Expels wind dampness (bi syndromes), relaxes sinews, & unblocks the connecting channels: numbness or stiffness.

- Clears damp-heat from the skin: for damp-heat skin lesions such as eczema & pustular sores.

Kidney Yin Xu

Dosage: up to 15g
Bi Xie

A&I:
- Promotes urination, unblocks lin, & expels stones: treating stones in both the urinary and biliary tracts.

- Clears damp-heat in the Liver & Gallbladder: for jaundice and/or red, swollen eyes due to damp-heat

- Reduces toxicity & swelling.

C&C: None

up to 60g often used alone or as an infusion for stones. Don't cook long.
Jin Qian Cao

Properties:
Sweet, Sour, Neutral

A&I:
- Clears heat & promotes urination: edema, urinary difficulty, & leg qi oedema. The nature of this herb is to move downward & relieve edema by causing the water or dampness to be drained from the body.

- Disperse blood stasis, reduces swelling, & reduces fire toxicity: carbuncles & furuncles.

- Clears damp-heat: for mild cases of jaundice sue to damp-heat

C&C:
Frequent ingestion of this bean can lead to dryness.

Dosage: up to 30g
Chi Xiao Dou

Sweet, Bland, Cold

A&I:
- Promotes urination & leaches out dampness: urinary difficulty, edema, & diarrhea. Especially useful when there is damp-heat in the lower burner.

- Drains Kidney Fire: for Kidney Yin Xu patterns with heat signs, including dizziness & tinnitus.

C&C:
Contraindicated in cases of spermatorrhea or vaginal discharge due to Kidney Yang Xu or damp-cold.

Dosage: up to 15g.
Ze Xie
Channels:

Bitter, Spicy, Cool

A&I:
- Clears damp-heat from Liver & Gallbladder & relieves jaundice: this is the principal herb for treating jaundice due to either damp-heat or damp-cold.

- Clears heat & releases the exterior: for heat patterns such as intermittent fever & chills, bitter taste in mouth, stifle in chest, flank pain

C&C:
Deficiency Jaundice

Dosage: up to 15g.
Yin Chen Hao

Bitter, Spicy, Cold

A&I:
Guang:
- Expels wind-dampness & alleviates pain: wind-damp-heat bi: patient has diffuse aches & pains, thirst & a yellow greasy tongue coat.

- Promotes urination & reduces edema

- Han: interior dampness

- Guang: up to 15g
- Han up to 9g
Fang Ji

Properties:
Sweet, Neutral

A&I:
- Promotes urination & reduces edema: floating edema and ascites

- Cools the blood & reduces toxicity: one of the herbs of choice for treating poisonous snakebites & wasp stings. Also used for fire toxin patterns such as tonsillitis.

- Xu Patterns

Dosage: up to 30g.
Ban Bian Lian

Properties:
Sweet, Neutral

A&I:
- Promotes urination: for hot or stony lin or edema

- Benefits the Gall-bladder & removes jaundice: for either yin or yang jaundice, depending on the other herbs with which it is combined.

- Wasting & Thirsting Disorder.
