Gold Standard: Amoxicillin 500 mg tp 875 mg BID to TID for 10 - 14 days




If no improvement in 2 days or history of antibiotics in past 3 months use


Augmentin PO BID 10-14 days




PCN Allergy: Z pack x 5 days

Acute onset of pharyngitis, pain on swallowing, mildly enlarged submandibular nodes. Pharynx is bright red to dark pink. Yellow tonsillar exudates.

Sequela of stept. Produces a diffuse erthematous eruption associated with pharyngitis. Sandpaper textured rash. Strawberry tongue.

Scarlet fever

Life threatening infection of epiglottis and surrounding tissue which can cause sudden critical narrowing of airway. Severe sore throat (cant swallow own saliva), fever, muffled voice, drooling, hoarseness.

Epiglottitis

Fatigue can last days to weeks, fever. Lymphadenopathy. Painful pharyngitis, severe exudate.
