Induction
start labor; pregnancy lasts longer than 42 weeks, placenta may not be able to function efficiently, so doctor may induce labor
Caeserian Section (C-Section)
normal delivery is considered impossible or too dangerous; operation is short (45 min. to 60 min.), but baby delivered within 5-10 min.; abdomen of mom is cut, baby removed; fetal distress and prolonged labor are possible reasons
Episiotomy
incision made through perineum and the vaginal wall; done if vaginal opening isn't stretching enough to let baby emerge; anaesthetic given; tears are sewn
Ventouse-Vacuum Extraction
suction cup placed over top of baby's head and using an attached pump, a vacuum is created; can bruise baby's head and make cone-head, but cone shape will disappear
