This is the full integration of various elements, striving for the quality of life.
3 Key Factors that Influence Health
They are BEHAVIOR and the ENVIRONMENT, which can be influenced or controlled. The third one, HEREDITY, cannot be controlled.

3 Types of Preventative Medicine
Primary, Secondary, Tertiary
Primary Preventative Medicine
aimed at WHOLE population. It is cost effective. There are vaccinations and immunizations, condoms. The goal is to intervene before the problem.
Secondary Preventative Medicine
there is a risk but symptoms/diagnosis. The goal is to identify and treat the disease before it is advanced.
Tertiary Preventative Medicine
Fight the disease. Try to make the person more functional and at ease. There is the use of therapy, dialysis, and breathing machines.
Alternative medicine
These are medicines that are non-invasive that promote healing. There is no scientific evidence for their working. Examples include herbs, oils, and acupuncture.

Precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, transcendence, relapse
Precontemplation Stage of Change
Not even considering change! "Ignorance is bliss!"
Help others: self explore, validate their lack of readiness, decision is theirs
Contemplation Stage of Change
"Sitting on the fence." Not going to change soon. Recognizes they have a problem.
Help others: Validate readiness! Promote change! Talk about benefits and rewards.
Preparation Stage of Change
You want to be in this stage. "Testing the waters." Have tried to change before.
Help others: Reinforce benefits, identify, and assist
Action Stage of Change
Performing Change (3-6 mos.) Will power!
Help others: Encourage small steps, support groups, reiterate long term benefts
Maintenance Stage of Change
6 mos. - 5 years!
Transcendence
Can't fathom returning to old behavior.
Relapse
Go back to old behavior = very normal. "Fall from grace." 80-90%.
Help others: Encourage! Find the trigger for the relapse.

Predisposing, enabling, reinforcing
Predisposing
Factors you all ready have. Attitudes, beliefs, past experiences, knowledge
Enabling
Make it easier/harder to change. They include support, costs, time, resources, availability, physical/mental capability, and safe areas.
Reinforcing
These are either there or they are not.
